The Ministry of Defense has announced that Kazuhisa Shimada, Policy Advisor to the Minister of Defense, will retire on the 10th.

After serving as secretary to the prime minister for about six and a half years in the second Abe administration, Mr. Shimada served as administrative vice-minister of the Ministry of Defense for about two years from August last year.

And last month, after retiring as Vice-Minister, he was appointed as Policy Advisor to the Minister of Defense to assist former Minister Kishi.

Regarding the reason for Mr. Shimada's resignation, the Ministry of Defense said, "Policy advisors are directly appointed by the minister and are posts that directly offer their opinions on important policies. I have decided to resign," he said.

Shimada will continue to serve as an advisor to the Ministry of Defense.
