The Greek Coast Guard
has rescued 29 migrants
, whose boat was adrift south of the
island of Rhodes in the Aegean Sea
, but the search and rescue operation continues, since around fifty people
remain missing
, it has a coastguard spokeswoman said.
Two Navy ships, an Aviation helicopter and
two Coast Guard vessels
participate in the search for the disappeared, which, according to testimonies of those rescued, are about 50 people,
since 80 migrants were traveling on the ship.
The boat left
the Turkish coast
, near the city of Antalya (south), and had
Italy
as its final destination , confirmed the coastguard spokeswoman, who specified that among
the 29 rescued there are Iraqis, Iranians and Afghans
.
According to the coastguard,
the weather does not facilitate the operation
, since there are winds of 40 to 50 km/h in the area.
