Since 2010, there has been a smaller temporary terminal in the Torsvik area, which will now be replaced by the full-sized combi terminal, which, if the proposal is voted through in the city council, will begin construction in 2024. The current station at Solåsen in Jönköping will also be gradually closed down to make room for the city's development to the south.

The combination terminal at Torsvik will be able to receive trains up to 600 meters long, and the transports are estimated to replace 240 trucks per day.

- It feels great because this is so much in demand from our companies.

Now is really the time, because now the conditions are in place, says Ann-Marie Nilsson (C), chairman of the municipal board.

More efficient than truck

The project is estimated to cost SEK 350 million and will be built in stages over time.

And when the combi terminal is put into use, the number of truck transports on the E4 through Jönköping will decrease significantly.

Transporting cargo by rail is expected to be four times as efficient as transport by road.

- Companies today are very keen to have sustainable transport and then the railway is everything. It belongs in a large modern logistics area.

At the same time, there are combi terminals in some of the neighboring municipalities.

Is there a risk of this one out-competing them?

- It is possible that there may be some competition at times, but we also see it as an important whole for the entire region.

It is important to see it collectively, all of these actors are important and good for our entire region.
