The criminal court of Valence (Drôme) sentenced a 38-year-old man to a fine of 200 euros on Monday.

The defendant appeared for "public insult towards a depositary of authority".

The 30-year-old explained that he was "out of his mind" when reading a publication from the prefecture on the social network concerning the reception of Ukrainian refugees.

He then decided to leave a comment under the post.

He recalled that “there are retirees who go through the trash to eat”.

No will to personal attack

The Internet user then attacked the representative of the State by name.

At his trial, the defendant claimed to have wanted to denounce a situation and not a person.

The amount of the fine he will have to pay was determined taking into account the income of the Drôme, beneficiary of the RSA.
