It began with Russia showing images of fragments from a projectile it said belonged to the weapon, an AGM-88 High-Speed Anti-Radiation Missile abbreviated as Harm.

It is a robot that itself finds radar signals from air defenses on the ground and shoots it down.

Shortly before that, several military analysts had begun to note that an unusually large part of the Russian air defenses had been knocked out.

- It was surprisingly high, says Rein Pella, weapons expert at the Norwegian Defense Academy.

In addition, Ukrainian warplanes began flying more and more over Russian-controlled territory.

Even that remarkable.

- Both Russian and Ukrainian combat aircraft have really only operated on the absolute front line, neither has carried out airstrikes on the other's territory.

Both sides' air defenses have been too strong, says Pella.

Great importance

The fragment in the Russian images appeared to come from the signal-seeking robot Harm.

So it seems to be true, according to information to CNN.

According to Rein Pella, it is of great importance if the weapon is used.

According to him, it can be seen as working in two ways: either the Russian air defense is knocked out or it is intimidated into shutting down.

Namely, the robot finds the anti-aircraft defense by searching for the radar signals from it.

- In the past, the air defense has been able to be on around the clock, every day.

The fact that it was secret was important in order to have as great an effect as possible.

- If you give notice in advance, the Russians can start to adapt their tactics, that is, change their behaviour, says Rein Pella.

In the video you can hear how the robot works: "The robot opens its target finder and starts looking for the radar system".
