Israel has vowed another operation in the Gaza Strip "if necessary", while the UN Security Council is preparing to hold an emergency session on Monday to discuss the situation in Gaza after reaching a truce agreement.

"We have more plans and many operations, whether in Gaza, the north or other arenas," Israeli Chief of Staff Aviv Kohavi said on Monday.

As Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said, "We are determined to defend our citizens and our sovereignty, and we will carry out another operation if necessary."

And last Saturday, China, which chairs the Security Council for the current month, announced an emergency meeting that will be prepared this evening, where the Chinese ambassador to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, said that he was "very concerned about the situation in Gaza."

In a press statement this morning at the United Nations, the Israeli ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, held the Islamic Jihad movement "fully responsible" and accused it of using Gazans as "human shields."

"If the Security Council really wants to improve the situation in Gaza, there must be one outcome, condemning the double war crime of Islamic Jihad and holding the terrorist group fully responsible for the killing of innocent Palestinians," he said.

According to several diplomatic sources, no statement is expected from the Security Council at the conclusion of the emergency meeting at this stage.
