• Politics The Government withdraws and summons the regional councilors for a high-level meeting on the energy saving plan

  • Plan The Government rectifies and announces that bars and shops will be able to put the air conditioning at "about 25 degrees"

After a week of uncertainty and cross accusations, autonomies and the Government sit down -telematically- today to address the delicate energy saving plan.

What is a sector conference?

They are multilateral cooperation bodies related to a specific sector of public activity.

In this case, the

Energy Sector Conference

will bring together the regional councilors of the branch and representatives of the

Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces

(FEMP).

It will be chaired by the third vice president, Teresa Ribera;

by the Minister of Industry, Reyes Maroto, and by the Secretary of State for Energy,

Sara Aagesen.

Why do you meet?

The Government has decided to convene it urgently after during the last week the autonomies have shown doubts about the content of the Royal Decree establishing measures to alleviate the energy crisis.

A document that, they say, they have not been consulted and that collides on certain points with the regional strategies designed with the same objective and with the containment of spending.

What do the communities demand?

Mainly, a way of "communication" and dialogue, despite the fact that the Government asserts that it has existed in recent weeks.

The regions regret that the plan is not "sensitive" enough and, for example, "forks" are not established based on the different climatic and temperature contexts that exist throughout our geography.

So, can they make proposals?

This is what regional executives expect.

From

Madrid

, it was requested this Sunday that the Government be "open to contributions" from the regions, but in recent days it has been insisted from Ecological Transition that the Royal Decree has not been "modified" in any way to date.

Is the Government willing to introduce proposals from the communities?

Due to the format of the conference, the directors will be able to express their positions, but the Executive has not specified if it is willing to qualify the measures.

The objective, it was highlighted this Sunday, is "to align the energy saving policies of all administrations with the aim of guaranteeing compliance" with the Royal Decree.

It is also planned to "analyze the details" of the regulatory package.

What about the technical meeting scheduled for Tuesday?

It will not be held in the end.

As the call for the sectoral conference was sent this Sunday, the meeting with specialists from the autonomies was cancelled.

However, this Monday's meeting will also serve to "resolve doubts" that the territories may have in this regard.

When does the Royal Decree come into force?

In less than 48 hours.

As of this Wednesday, August 10, the announced measures will come into force.

But many municipalities have been applying certain shutdowns for days, in line with what is required in the document.

Will the regions abide by all the measures of the savings plan?

Yes. This is what all the regional leaders have stated in recent days, despite having criticized the content of the package and expressed uncertainty about its effectiveness: "We must comply with the law."

Of course, from points such as the

Community of Madrid

or

Castilla y León

, it is still being studied whether to take the Royal Decree to court, understanding that it may contain overtones of unconstitutionality for entering the field of competence of the autonomies.
