The CAC 40 index gained 52.09 points to 6,524.44 points.

It had risen 0.37% last week despite concerns about geopolitical tensions in Asia and expectations that the US central bank, the Fed, will continue its monetary tightening in a strict way.

"Today's rise is seen in low trading volumes, as it is August", a context which tends to exacerbate the variations, comments Harry Wolhandler, director of equity management at Meeschaert Amilton AM.

The CAC 40 is "up in the wake of a Wall Street closing finally quite robust despite employment figures well above consensus expectations on Friday", he adds.

On Friday, the stock markets fell after the publication of data on the US labor market which canceled the hypothesis of a slowdown in key interest rate hikes from the Fed.

"What's going to be important this week is obviously the inflation number in the United States which will probably dictate the extent of the next rate hike in the United States," said Wolhandler, with markets wondering if he it will be "an increase of 75 or 50 basis points".

On Saturday, an official of the American central bank pleaded for the monetary institution to continue to raise its key rates sharply until inflation actually falls.

In Europe, the agreement reached at the end of July by the member states of the European Union to voluntarily reduce their gas consumption, in the face of drastic reductions in Russian deliveries, will come into force on Tuesday, after its publication in the Official Journal of the EU on Monday. .
