Millions of Afghans now live in very difficult conditions, not least for women and girls.

According to Alison Davidian, country manager at UN Women, decades of progress in human rights have been erased in one year.

- Everything we feared would happen has happened, she says.

The burqa, or full-covering hijab, is the garment the Taliban has decreed women must wear, and to be seen outside the home they must always be accompanied by a male relative.

Education has been banned.

The Taliban have broken their promises and are forcing girls to leave school after the sixth grade.

Poor families sell their daughters to older men to afford food.
