Magnitude 6.0 earthquake strikes Russia's Kuril Islands

An earthquake measuring 6 on the Richter scale hit Shekotan Island of the Russian Kuril Islands today, while there were no reports of human or material losses as a result of the quake.


And the Russian news agency "Sputnik" quoted the Unified Geophysical Authority of the Russian Academy of Sciences, that the epicenter of the earthquake occurred 117 kilometers to the east of the town of Malukurilskoye on Shikotan Island, at a depth of 25 kilometers.


The Kuril Islands are located in a seismically active area known as the Ring of Fire, Which is regularly affected by strong earthquakes.
