For the past few days, a beluga has been seen in the Seine and is approaching Paris.

A location well removed from its natural environment, in cold and salty waters such as off the coast of Canada.

On Europe 1, the sub-prefect of Eure indicates that the authorities will try to bring him back to the high seas.

The beluga would show signs of improvement.

In any case, this is the hope shared by the Eure sub-prefecture.

The animal was seen in a lock of the Seine, located in the department.

It had not fed for several days, but it is now reacting to its environment, which is very different from its natural environment, in cold and salty waters such as off the coast of Canada.

The sub-prefect of Eure Isabelle Dorliat-Pouzet closely follows the evolution of the animal.

"As his condition is not deteriorating, we decided to try to bring him back to the sea as quickly and as best as possible," she explains to Europe 1.

800 kilos for four meters long

The sub-prefect stresses that the authorities will try "to endanger it as little as possible. The animal, even if it is thin for a beluga, still weighs around 800 kilos for four meters long".

"Until now, we had not considered this hypothesis because the experts agreed that he was probably able to cope with such a journey and that it was to put him in danger for sure. “, adds the sub-prefect of Eure.

"We will try to transport it to the high seas so that it can find its natural environment", informs Isabelle Dorliat-Pouzet.
