The number of accounts requested for information around the world more than quadrupled between 2013 and 2020, and 2020 witnessed the largest annual increase of nearly 40% (46% in Israel).

Israel ranked 12th globally in the number of requests, and its request for information on user accounts increased by 173% over the global average, according to the report, which relied on information from transparency reports published by Apple, Google, Facebook and Microsoft.

The report says that the increase in the number of requests for information submitted by countries may be attributed to the Corona epidemic and the increase in people's use of the Internet around the world, noting that this may have led to an increase in the rates of crimes committed in the virtual world.

The report said that technology companies responded to government requests by an estimated 70%, adding that Apple was the most compliant;

It approved more than 80% of all requests, 58% of which came from the United States of America.

The report found that Google was the least responsive, responding to 69% of requests from authorities around the world, adding that Microsoft was the most compliant in the past, but since 2018 it has become the least compliant.
