The Islamic Jihad movement said that it succeeded in imposing its conditions on the Israeli occupation during indirect negotiations that resulted in a ceasefire in Gaza.

While it made clear that the agreement includes an Egyptian commitment and does not involve any complications or secret clauses, the movement affirmed its readiness to resume fighting if the occupation violated the armistice.

From Tehran, the movement's Secretary-General Ziad al-Nakhala said that the popular incubator and the common room of the resistance provided support, "but the jihad carried out the bulk of the fighting."

Al-Nakhalah stressed that the agreement has no complications, "and it is represented in an Israeli commitment to release (the two prisoners) Al-Awawda and Al-Saadi."

He said Khalil al-Awawda would be discharged directly to the hospital and then home.

He explained that the Egyptian side pledged to work for the release of Bassam Al-Saadi within a week.

While stressing the movement's respect for Egyptian commitments, he stressed that the only guarantee for the implementation of the agreement is resistance on the ground.

The Secretary-General of the Jihad movement added that if "the enemy does not abide by what has been agreed upon, we will resume fighting again."

He revealed that Israel has sought with all its might to reach a cease-fire through Egypt and the United Nations.

He said that the Jihad movement remained in control of the field despite the difference in the balance of power.

"The jihad movement is today stronger, and all the cities of the enemy were within the range of the resistance's missiles," he added.

He pointed out that the movement moved in order to protect the life of Sheikh Bassam Al-Saadi and to emphasize the unity of the people in geography.

The Secretary-General of the Jihad movement praised the foreign ministers of Qatar and Iran and the speaker of the Lebanese parliament.

Armistice into force

A ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Islamic Jihad movement entered into force in Gaza on Sunday evening at 23:30 Palestine time following Egyptian mediation, 3 days after the start of the Israeli military operation on the Strip.

Hours before the agreement took effect, the Ministry of Health in Gaza said that the death toll from the Israeli escalation on the Strip rose to 43, including 15 children and 4 women, in addition to 311 wounded.

Al Jazeera obtained the text of the agreement, which included a comprehensive and mutual ceasefire, at a time when Egypt will make its efforts and commit to working to release the prisoner Khalil Awawda and transfer him for treatment.

The agreement also stipulates that Egypt will work to release the prisoner Bassam Al-Saadi as soon as possible.
