31 detainees escape from a detention center in Lebanon

About 31 detainees escaped at dawn on Sunday from a detention center located under the Qasr al-Adl bridge in Beirut, after they managed to smuggle a tool to their prison that helped them carry out this operation, according to security and judicial sources.

The Internal Security Forces said in a statement, "immediate orders were given to arrest" the fugitives, adding that "an investigation is underway under the supervision of the competent judiciary" to determine the circumstances of their escape.

A judicial source told AFP, requesting anonymity, that "the fugitives are of several nationalities, including Lebanese, Syrians, Palestinians and foreigners, and they escaped on Saturday night," adding, "An administrative investigation is now underway, a census of the number of prisoners and confirmation of their identity."

For his part, a security source stated that they "published an iron window using a saw that was secretly entered into the prison."
