12 Poles killed in bus accident in Croatia

The Croatian Interior Ministry announced that 12 Poles were killed and about 30 others were injured Saturday morning in an accident that a Polish bus derailed from the road in northern Croatia, where they were on a trip to a Catholic site.

And the Ministry of Interior announced earlier on Twitter that 11 people had died.

"Unfortunately, one person died and he was taken to the hospital in the meantime, and this means that at this moment 12 people were killed in this accident," Croatian Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic told a press conference.

About thirty others were injured, including 26 people who were taken to several hospitals in Zagreb for serious injuries, according to the Croatian Director of Emergency Services.

Sixteen ambulance crews were sent to the scene, according to the official.

An official from the Polish consulate in Croatia said the travelers were Polish citizens.

"According to some information, they were a group on their way to Medjugorje to visit a well-known Catholic shrine in Bosnia," the interior minister said.

Hundreds of thousands of people visit this place annually, including many Poles.
