Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk did not comment on the criticism of how the company handles sexual harassment and racism, but in a statement, a representative for the company said that Tesla "does not tolerate discrimination, harassment, retaliation or negative treatment of employees in the workplace or in work-related situations."

The vote count had not yet been completed by Friday, with preliminary figures showing that only one motion passed with the two-thirds majority needed.

It is about major shareholders with more than three percent of the shares being allowed to nominate alternative members to the company board.

Tesla has been regularly criticized for a lack of diversity on the board.
