A violent storm hit Washington (United States) and its surroundings on Thursday evening.

Four people were seriously injured, struck by lightning in the immediate vicinity of the White House, authorities said.

Lightning struck two women and two men in the public park that borders the residence of the American president, inflicting "injuries that could lead to death", according to the firefighters of the American capital.

The hospitalized victims

, the victims were in a grove.

We don't know why they were there, in the middle of a storm.

They were hospitalized.

Photos released by firefighters show a large number of emergency vehicles in front of the gates of the White House, while a storm continued to beat down on Washington.
