These days, when almost all of Germany is on vacation and almost everyone has gone to distant shores to roast themselves in the hot sand or fight early morning towel fights over the always too few sun loungers, some have to work.

All you have left is the longing for distant goals.

As the poet knows, the best journeys happen in the mind anyway, and music from all over the world certainly helps to fuel the suggestion.

Conveniently, the diversity of the musical world in August can already be experienced with a short trip to the west of Frankfurt.

In the next few weeks, the Sommerwiese festival will be held on the Centennial Hall grounds, with a concert program that can help to make imaginary trips to Jamaica, Italy or America, for example.

A trip to the Caribbean is on the program to kick off the concert series on August 7th.

With Horace Andy, a legend of roots reggae has announced itself, whereby the gold-soaked voice of the now 72-year-old Jamaican should also be known to many listeners who may not be so familiar with reggae apart from Bob Marley or Jimmy Cliff.

But Horace Andy is also the reggae voice of English trip-hop pioneers Massive Attack and can be heard on all of their albums.

One of Massive Attack's first hits was the song "Safe From Harm", which was sung by Shara Nelson at the time but is now also available in a version by Horace Andy, which he recorded for his current album "Midnight Rocker". which was published in April of this year.

The variety of these styles can already be experienced on Sunday afternoon in the hours before the concert by Horace Andy and his companions, the Dub Asante Band.

Next to the extinguishing pond in front of the Centennial Hall, the sound systems typical of Jamaica will be set up, which will be played by DJs from Armagiddeon Sound, Soundbwoys Destiny and Vintage Soundsystem as well as local matador DJ Weller from 2 p.m.

The art events and installations of the Frankfurter Sport und Kunst Kasino (FSKK), curated by Annette Gloser, provide an additional summer atmosphere.

Which sloops the leisure captains will use to take part in these activities is a secret, but with a little imagination and squinting your eyes you might be able to imagine a scene like that in front of Portofino or Porto Cervo, at least one of those Italian places where the magnificent yachts of the jet set can be admired are.

On August 22nd, Roy Bianco & The Abbrunzati Boys, Italians from Augsburg and Munich, who have even become hit parade toppers with their tongue-in-cheek Italo-Pop, will deliver the right soundtrack for this daydream. but to the top of the German album charts.

The concert by the Hypnotic Brass Band on August 15 promises a party of a different kind.

The eight-wind ensemble from Chicago brings together the sons of legendary jazz trumpeter Phil Cohran, who was once a member of the Sun Ra Arkestra.

The Cohran brothers play an energetic hybrid of jazz, funk, calypso and rock, which might also please hip-hop fans, who should feel addressed several times at the Sommerwiese festival, since there are also concerts by Megaloh (August 12) , Culcha Candela (August 13), Dikka (August 14) and 1986zig (August 19) on the program of the Sommerwiese festival, which also includes Mine (August 9), Mayberg (August 16) and The Monsters ( August 18) are expected.

Frankfurt artists will be there on August 21st when Gastone, The OhOhOhs, Nachttierhaus and Shantel, this time as a DJ, will perform.
