The Union of Humanist Democrats (UDH-YUKi) of late opponent Guy-Brice Parfait Kolelas won seven seats in the new National Assembly, the same number of elected officials as the Pan-African Union for Social Democracy (UPADS) , hitherto the first formation of the opposition.

Within the UPADS, the pan-African opinion for social democracy is disappointment.

The movement lost a seat in this legislative election and is therefore tied with its competitor the Union of Humanist Democrats (UDH-Yuki).

But for its spokesperson, Sidoine Romaric Moukoukou, the UPADS must remain leader of the opposition: “

We think that we simply have to apply the law.

Article 11 on the status of leader of the opposition stipulates that in the event of a tie between two opposition parties, one must refer to the old results of the last legislative elections of 2017 where the UPADS had eight deputies

. , he explains.

But on the side of the UDH-Yuki, we do not admit defeat.

The electoral process is not yet finished, specifies Gilles Fernand Bassindikila, second vice-president of the movement.

The party could still win one or two seats and become the leader of the opposition.

We have recourse because we have been wronged in several of our constituencies where victory was certain based on our minutes.

Perhaps this number (of seven deputies) will be revised upwards.

We trust the institutions

 ,” he hopes.

The Constitutional Court should rule in a few days on the appeals of the UDH-Yuki, as well as those filed by several other parties.
