Last Saturday evening, two people were hit by a car on Hisingen in Gothenburg.

A woman in her 40s died from her injuries.

A man of the same age, her new boyfriend according to SVT, was seriously injured.

Four people were quickly arrested.

Two are the woman's sons, who are suspected of murder and attempted murder.

Two others, also those close to the family, are suspected of gross protection of a criminal.

Today, all were arrested for the respective criminal charges.

Video recordings

The investigators are now going through video recordings and statements on social media, where the woman is said to have been accused of bringing shame on the family.

- It is an important part of the evidence, says prosecutor Hediye Kurt.

According to information to SVT, shameful comments but also threats have been uttered against the woman, among other things in connection with a Roma trial, a so-called crisis, without the woman being present.

Concerns about stigmatization

Sunita Memetovic is a lawyer with Roma origins, but also a human rights activist who works for Roma rights both in Sweden and internationally.

She says that problems of honor occur among Roma, as among many other groups in society.

- But that there are murders with suspected honor motives within the group is something that at least I have never come across before.

This is a tragedy and many Roma are shocked by what has happened, but many also worry that this will contribute to even greater stigma.

Prosecutor Hediye Kurt assesses that there are elements of honor in the suspected murder.

- But we will investigate it more closely, she tells SVT Nyheter.

Denies the allegations

The man who was seriously injured is still being treated in hospital with serious injuries.

His condition is said to be stable.

The suspects deny the allegations.

- He has denied, I cannot comment on it further, says defense lawyer Nan Sahlén, who represents the younger of the brothers.
