- In Ukraine you don't learn to swim as much as in Sweden, it is an important knowledge to have if you are going to live here, he says.

Jocke has previously worked as a swimming instructor at Växjö Simsällskap.

When he came up with the idea of organizing a swimming school for Ukrainian refugee children, the association quickly jumped on board.

- Everything started as a non-profit and was first financed with contributions from the public, he says.

Växjö municipality pays

The swimming school was started last spring and now during the summer Växjö municipality has stepped in and provided financial support.

- We organize it together with Växjö municipality, it is the municipality that is responsible for the cost, says Frida Wilkens, who is responsible for the swimming school at Växjö Simsällskap.

It is Jocke and another swimming teacher who teach at the swimming school.

Since they both have other jobs during the day, the swimming school is held in the evening.

In the video player above, Jocke tells more about how he communicates with the children.
