A first person died

from monkeypox in India.

The deceased man was 22 years old.

He had arrived in Kerala, in southern India, on July 21.

He was not admitted to hospital until six days later, due to severe fatigue and meningitis.

But it was only after he died on Saturday July 30 that his relatives revealed he had been tested for monkeypox before leaving the United Arab Emirates.

This lack of transparency from passengers about their state of health is a common problem in India, and is now prompting the authorities to make significant efforts: in Kerala, which has five of the seven reported cases

of monkeypox

in the country, relatives of The deceased men were first placed in quarantine.

And increased vigilance is in place at airports, especially for flights arriving from the Middle East.

In the neighboring state of Karnataka, where Bangalore is located, medical personnel will examine some passengers at airports, train and bus stations, and test those suspected of being infected.

If they test positive, they will be quarantined for three weeks.
