US House Speaker Pelosi released his name on his website shortly after his arrival in Taiwan.

He said his visit to Taiwan was in accordance with the firm commitment of the United States to support Taiwan's democracy.

At the same time, the Washington Post article published at the same time issued a message directly aimed at China.

He criticized China for threatening Taiwan's democracy as it prepares for unification by armed force, and for increasing economic pressure by threatening companies and countries that cooperate with Taiwan.

In particular, he criticized Chinese President Xi Jinping for ignoring human rights and the rule of law, citing the Hong Kong incident and human rights abuses in Tibet and Xinjiang.

Pelosi, however, said that protecting Taiwan's freedom and democracy is two separate things from advocating for the 'one China' principle.

The White House also countered that there was no reason to escalate the crisis, saying Pelosi's visit to Taiwan did not infringe on China's sovereignty.

[John Kirby / White House National Security Council Coordinator: The United States will support Taiwan's self-defense in accordance with the Taiwan Relations Act.

This visit has no reason to escalate conflict.

The 'one China' principle remains the same.]

After finishing his Taiwan tour, Chairman Pelosi will go to Korea to meet with National Assembly Speaker Jinpyo Kim and others to continue his Asia tour.
