China News Agency, Moscow, August 1 (Tian Bing and Liu Jingyao) The Russian government announced on August 1 that it has decided to establish the Northern Sea Route management department "Northern Sea Route Administration".

The move will help centralize the management of shipping matters in the waters of the Northern Sea Route and improve navigation safety in this important area, the statement said.

The official website of the Russian government said in a statement on the 1st that Prime Minister Mishustin had signed an order on the formation of a new agency.

The General Administration of the Northern Sea Route belongs to the state budgetary unit and is established by the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation.

Mishustin pointed out that under the pressure of Western sanctions, the development of the Northern Sea Route has become one of Russia's key priorities.

The Northern Sea Route can be used as an alternative route for trade between Russia and friendly countries.

Mishustin said that according to President Vladimir Putin's instructions, Russia will establish the General Administration of the Northern Sea Route to organize and manage the passage of ships on the northern sea route. Its responsibilities include issuing and revoking permits to pass through the waterway.

He emphasized that the Russian government will continue to expand the Northern Sea Route and develop it into an important transportation corridor of world significance.

He said that the Northern Sea Route is the main transportation route for freight in the north, through which metals and energy are transported to the global market, and goods are transferred in the Asian and European markets.

“At the same time, the Northern Sea Route lies entirely within Russia’s territorial waters and its exclusive economic zone. This is especially important in the context of external sanctions and disruption of logistics supply chains.”

Mishustin said that the Russian government has formulated a plan for the development of the Northern Sea Route until 2035, which will be approved in the near future.

According to the Russian side, the Northern Sea Route is the shortest sea route between the European part of Russia and the Far East. The total length of the route from the Kara Strait to the Gulf of Providenya is about 5,600 kilometers.

The Northern Sea Route has high commercial potential. In recent years, Russia has paid increasing attention to the development of the Northern Sea Route.
