Last week we told you that many who live in sparsely populated areas have a long way to go when they have to inspect their vehicles.

In some extreme cases, it can be close to 40 miles round trip.

Bo Ericsson, who represents the Swedish Automotive Workshop Association, thinks that car workshops with a special certificate should be allowed to carry out control inspections.

Risk of deadlock

He believes that it would contribute to more jobs in the countryside when workshops need to hire more staff to carry out the inspections, less environmental impact because there will be a shorter driving distance to the local workshop.

But at the same time, Bo Ericsson admits that there are some problems with the proposal.

- It's an obvious stalemate, that's why you can't let this go completely freely, but you have to make demands.

Should a workshop be caught recommending unnecessary measures in order to make more money, we think that the workshop should no longer be considered an approved car workshop and it should be deprived of the opportunity to carry out control inspections in the future, says Bo Ericsson.
