China News Agency, Nanjing, August 1 (Reporter Yang Yanci) According to the news from the Purple Mountain Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on August 1, the starry sky ushered in the most beautiful galaxy viewing season in August, and the stars were shining at that time.

Encounter with "The Cowherd and Weaver Girl", make a wish to the Perseid meteor shower... The stars are bright and the meteors are passing, bringing the exclusive romance of summer in the northern hemisphere.

According to experts, the Milky Way is a flat spiral galaxy with a bulging bulge in the middle, surrounded by spiral arms composed of stars, nebulae, interstellar dust and other materials.

From the Earth in the galactic disk, you can see the cross section of the Milky Way, like a bright band of shining stars across the sky.

August is the perfect time to watch the Milky Way: the spectacular Milky Way Dark Rift is on display, while the southern starry sky is extremely lively, and the mysterious deep sky objects are even more dizzying.

With the advent of the Qixi Festival, Altair and Vega will hang high in the sky, facing each other on both sides of the Milky Way.

Witnessed by "The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl", the Perseid meteor shower, one of the three major meteor showers in the northern hemisphere, is coming.

Generally speaking, the active period of the Perseid meteor shower lasts from mid-July to early September each year.

This year's maximum period occurred in the early hours of August 13, with an estimated hourly zenith flow (ZHR) of 100.

This means that at most hundreds of meteors will fall in the night sky every hour.

The meteor shower is famous for the fast speed and long path of the meteors in the group. The meteors are blue-green and there are many bright meteors, which are very suitable for observation.

Although this year's Perseid meteor shower coincides with the full moon, the number of meteors visible to the naked eye will be reduced, but the bright moonlight is still difficult to obscure the light of bright meteors and bolides.

In the middle and high latitudes of the northern hemisphere, the radiant point of the Perseid meteor shower will rise higher and higher in the second half of the night, and the observation conditions will get better and better.

Before dawn on the 13th, with the full moon set low in the southwest, the public will have the best time to catch the "wishing meteor".

In addition to romantic appointments, this month's "Planet Show" in the stars is equally exciting.

Saturn, the second largest planet in the solar system with a beautiful "straw hat", welcomes the viewing window.

Around the 15th, Saturn will initiate opposition, when Saturn's brightness will reach its brightest, about 0.3 magnitude; its apparent diameter will also reach its maximum.

The conjunction period of Saturn and Earth is 378 days, that is, every 1 year or so, the Saturn opposition will be staged.

Saturn can be seen with the naked eye or through a small telescope.

If the diameter of the telescope is larger than 10 cm, and the magnification is increased to more than 100 times, it is possible to see the famous Cassini ring gap and many moons of Saturn.

On August 19, the "God of War" Mars and the "Seven Sisters" Subaru star cluster will form an "iron triangle" with Moon Girl to dance in the sky.

During this time when Mars and the Pleiades are accompanied by the moon, it can be observed throughout the second half of the night, and as the radiant point rises, it will be more "night" and more beautiful.

At the end of the month, the grand finale of Mercury East will debut.

On the 28th, Mercury ushered in its fifth major elongation this year.

During the long distance, the mysterious Mercury, which is usually buried in the sun's brilliance, will reveal its "true face".
