Sri Lanka President: Not the right time for Rajapaksa to return after fleeing the country

Sri Lanka's new President Ranil Wickremesinghe said on Sunday that the time was not right for former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to return to the country because it could spark a political crisis, the Wall Street Journal reported.

"I don't think the time is right for him to come back. I have no indication that he will be back soon," Wickremesinghe said in an interview with the American newspaper.

The newspaper reported that Wickremesinghe has been in contact with Rajapaksa to finalize administrative matters related to the transfer of power and other government matters.
