Euskadi kicks off its quintessential festive month on
high alert
for cases of punctures to women linked to possible acts of chemical submission for sexual purposes.
The Ertzaintza has recognized today that it is investigating 12 complaints made by young people in recent days and has reported two more cases detected in Bilbao in the last few hours.
They are not the only ones.
In Billabona and Azpeitia (Gipuzkoa) and in Zierbena (Bizkaia) women have also been punctured in festive venues during this weekend.
The shadow of what happened in Baiona (France) during its annual celebrations with 80 complaints plans in the Basque Country four days before the start of the La Blanca festivities in Vitoria.
The Ertzaintza investigates twelve cases of punctures suffered by women in festive venues and in discos in recent weeks.
The reported attacks have occurred in Santurtzi, Bilbao, Vitoria, Zarautz, Etxeberri and Zierbana.
They do not include those suffered during the last hours by women at the festivals of Billobona and Azpeitia.
Two towns -Billabona and Zierbena- suspended the festive acts last morning after learning of these possible attacks.
The Ertzaintza has not warned in its initial investigations that these pricks are related to a crime against sexual freedom nor have they been detected in the analyzes carried out on the attacked remains of inoculation of any toxic substance.
However, the Basque Police wants to insist on the importance of asking for
help "from the closest environment"
when a woman feels she has received a puncture and feels "unwell" to then call 112, the Emergency Care Service.
It also recommends going to a health center to quickly carry out an analysis to try to detect the presence of chemical substances and, therefore, signs of a possible crime.
The wave of complaints for punctures at the Basque Country festivities occurs just a few days after the festive events concluded in Baiona, a French-Basque town located just 40 kilometers from the Spanish border.
During its summer festivals, attended by thousands of Basques, 113 cases of punctures have been registered.
Only last night there have been 39 new alleged attacks.
