Forest fire in southern France destroys 620 acres of pine trees

A forest fire that broke out in southern France on Sunday destroyed 620 acres of pine trees and injured four firefighters as they participated in the fight against the blaze, authorities said.

William Borrelli, a spokesman for the fire service, told France Info radio that the fire that broke out in Obe, in the Gare region, was "extremely violent" due to the strong winds and dry weather.

Civil protection agencies said that about 300 firefighters are participating in extinguishing the fire, which has not been controlled so far.

French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said in a post on Twitter that four firefighters were injured, two of whom were receiving treatment for burn injuries.

In a press statement, the mayor of Ube said that the authorities had evacuated a number of families.

While the third heat wave began in France this year, several regions declared a state of high alert in anticipation of the outbreak of forest fires.
