Monday, August 1, the state of health emergency will officially end.

It was put in place on March 23, 2020, at the very beginning of the first confinement.

A decision that marks the end of our current method of managing the pandemic.

From now on, sanitary devices will require the approval of Parliament.

The state of health emergency is over.

From Monday, this exceptional provision, ratified on March 23, 2020, at the very beginning of the pandemic, will be officially abandoned.

Until now, it allowed the government to take all decisions related to the health crisis, directly in the Council of Ministers.

From Monday, it is therefore the elected officials who take control.

This means that all new measures will have to be voted on by Parliament.

Change also in the way of managing the crisis since the State will now put in place long-term measures.

In other words, no more sanitary constraints such as curfew or confinement.

The border health pass, still possible

Another major novelty: the entry into force of the health law which comes to take over from the state of emergency.

It was validated on Saturday by the Constitutional Council and extends several crisis management systems, in particular Sydec, the information and screening system and "Covid contact", the two digital tools for monitoring positive cases.

It also provides for the possibility of returning a health pass to the borders for people entering French territory in the event of the appearance of a new variant.

Only one measure remains in the hands of the executive: the obligation to wear a mask, which may be imposed by decree on the whole country, or only a part.
