Guest of Jeanne Baron in "Europe evening weekend" on Europe 1, Marine Tondelier, opposition adviser to Hénin-Beaumont in Pas-de-Calais, estimated that the French State was not doing enough to maintain quality public services.

According to her, they are sorely lacking in resources.

Moving from a "start-up nation" to a "public service nation".

This is the wish expressed by Marine Tondelier, opposition adviser Europe Ecology the Greens in Hénin-Beaumont.

Invited by Jeanne Baron on Europe 1, the elected official called on the government to act for better public services.

"We realize that we are in a state that has given pride of place to the private sector (...) but when we face the climate challenges that we will face in the decades to come, we realize that the public service is going to be necessary because in the end, it is the bedrock of our society and our security as well,” she said.

"Public services have been the poor relations"

According to her, the action of Emmanuel Macron did not make it possible to reverse the trend, on the contrary.

"I think that public services have been a bit of the poor relation for a few years and that it saved a little bit at the beginning, but it always ends up paying off and we get to that point where it pays off" , she complains.

Marine Tondelier then takes the example of hospitals, particularly under pressure since the summer, and assures that these public services are essential to maintain cohesion within society: "If people do not have quality hospitals and local public services, then it is a part of society that is falling apart. It is a part of French men and women who no longer feel considered, who no longer feel included in this society because they no longer have access to these basic services".

"If the means do not follow, it will end up cracking"

Finally, the elected representative raises the question of civil servants who work in these public services and who are very often the first to suffer from this lack of resources.

She notably takes the example of the employees of the Ministry of Ecological Transition.

"They have very few resources compared to other ministries," she regrets.

And to add: "it's like caregivers in hospitals. They do their job because they have conviction, self-sacrifice and determination. But we can see that at some point, that not enough".

Before concluding and summarizing in one sentence the substance of his remarks: "If the means do not follow, it will end up cracking".
