Russia's gas supplies affect the European energy market.

Although Sweden does not use very much Russian gas, the situation indirectly affects the Swedish electricity grid, which is partly dependent on imports.

Svenska kraftnät is now warning that a lack of power can mean that Swedish users do not get any electricity from the outlet.

When consumption is at its highest, some customers can be disconnected to save the system as a whole.

Limited possibilities

According to Niclas Damsgaard, Svenska kraftnät has limited opportunities to reduce the risk of disconnections in the coming winter.

- The possibility of adding additional production at such short notice or procuring something is relatively limited.

In the short term, there are not so many things we can do, but what measures we can take is of course something we are working on.

Need to increase production

At the same time, Svenska kraftnät is clear that, in the long term, more production is needed in southern Sweden.

But according to Niclas Damsgaard, power cuts are hardly something we need to get used to.

- The need for more production is there, but now we have a specific situation that is linked to the European energy market, the gas market and the war in Ukraine.
