With the sunset of the last Friday of the year 1443 AH, preparations for the transfer of the new covering of the Kaaba began amid a majestic view.

With pride, the cladding bearers rushed to the Kaaba to participate in the replacement process, so that a suit bearing the events of the past year was lowered, and another rose to record the events of a new year.

The Presidency of the Two Holy Mosques supervises the weaving, embroidery and processing of the Kaaba dress, which annually costs 25 million Saudi riyals... through many different departments and using modern machines in the King Abdulaziz Complex to cover the Kaaba, while the number of workers in its manufacture reaches 220 manufacturers and administrators.

The General President of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, stressed that the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is proactive in everything that would raise the level of services provided in the Two Holy Mosques, stressing that it has given the Kaaba most of its attention by taking care of it and maintaining its covering and replacing it with a new one every year because of its It is a great sanctity in the hearts of Muslims.

The covering of the Kaaba, which is the most expensive garment for the holiest house on earth, is replaced at the beginning of each new Hijri year with a veil that is considered the "most expensive", which is made of pure natural silk dyed black and adorned with Quranic verses and Islamic motifs embroidered with gold.

The height of the dress is 14 meters, and in the upper third of it there is a belt 95 centimeters wide, 47 meters long, and consisting of 16 pieces surrounded by a square of Islamic decoration.

The kiswa consists of four pieces, each piece covering one side of the Kaaba, and the fifth piece is the curtain that is placed on the door of the Kaaba, and its manufacture goes through several stages.

The jacquard cloth is gathered to form the four sides of the cladding, then the pieces of the belt and the curtain are attached to it in preparation for their installation over the Kaaba.. The number of pieces of the covering belt of the Kaaba is 16 pieces, 6 pieces, 12 lamps under the belt, 4 samdiat placed in the corners of the Kaaba, and 5 lamps “God is Greatest” on top of the Black Stone in addition to the outer curtain of the door of the Kaaba.

With threads of silk, gold and silver and with the hands of qualified national cadres, the dress of the honorable Kaaba is sewn and embroidered every year. The outer garment of the Holy Kaaba, through several technical and codified stages, and by national cadres who are qualified scientifically and practically.

The department produces the outer fabric of the Holy Kaaba by means of a "jacquard" machine, which produces two types of fabric, the first containing copied phrases and verses of the Qur'an called the engraved fabric, and the other is empty to be embroidered on it.

The covering of the Kaaba and its annual replacement are considered a follow-up to what the Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, and the Companions did after him. It has been proven that after the conquest of Makkah in the ninth year of the Hijri year, the Holy Prophet covered the Kaaba with Yemeni clothes and its expenses were from the Muslim treasury.

Over the years, the cladding took on a special character and description, and had many forms and specifications, and each era had a specific description that characterized it, until the prosperous Saudi era came with its care for the Two Holy Mosques, its sanctities and its purpose.

Each cladding fabric has its own preliminary preparations of warp threads, which differ according to the fabric in terms of its density, width and type.. Among the machines used in the cladding factory are the automatic winding wheel machine that transforms the threads from immobilization to bobbins, then the twisting and assembly machine and the lining machine The interior .. While the weaving machine is working on weaving the plain silk for the belt of the Kaaba dress.

The covering of the Kaaba is woven from pure natural silk, dyed black and adorned with Quranic verses and Islamic motifs embroidered with golden threads.

The process of changing the kiswa is preceded by harmonious and integrated preparations by the concerned authorities in the Presidency of the Two Holy Mosques and the King Abdulaziz Complex for the manufacture of the kiswah, and it passes through multiple stages aimed at controlling quality and investigating the latest modern technologies to ensure the highest levels of quality in a manner befitting the Kaaba, the Qibla of Muslims.

For his part, Counselor Abdul Hamid Al-Maliki, Deputy General President for the Affairs of the covering of the Kaaba, explained the mechanism of replacing the covering, and said that the old covering of the Kaaba is lowered, and it is covered with the new covering, which consists of four separate sides and the door curtain, and each of the four sides of the Kaaba is raised separately, to the top of the Kaaba in preparation. To lay it on the old side and fix the side from above by tying it down and dropping the other side from the side after the old side ropes are dissolved, by moving the new side up and down in a permanent movement.. Then the old side falls from the bottom and the new side remains, and the process is repeated Four times for each side until the garment is complete, after which the belt is in a straight line to the four sides by stitching it.

He added that after all sides are installed, the corners are fixed by sewing them from the top of the dress to the bottom, and after that is done, the curtain is placed, which needs time and mastery in work by making a hole estimated in the area of ​​​​the curtain in the black cloth, which is estimated at 3.30 meters wide until the end of the dress, and then Three holes are made in the black cloth to fix the curtain from under the cloth, and finally the ends are fixed by sewn into the black cloth on the dress.

And gold and silver threads are used to embroider the covering of the Kaaba, where the number of gold pieces reaches 54 pieces on the Kaaba. Gold, 100 kilograms of silver plated with gold water, and 760 kilograms of silk.

The Qur’anic verses and decorations are embroidered with silver threads coated with gold water, after cotton threads of different densities are placed over the printed lines on the black cloth. The pillars of the Kaaba, 16 pieces for the belt of the Kaaba, 7 pieces below the belt, the kinarien, the arak and the gutter ornament, in addition to the outer curtain of the door.

The weaving process is fully automated by converting the threads from paralysis to reels, twisting and assembly, and then the Jacquard machine takes them out in a ready-made manner as required, engraved or plain, and the phrases engraved on the fabric are “There is no god but God and Muhammad is the Messenger of God.” Glory be to God and praise be to Him.
