A recent study revealed that eating foods rich in potassium has amazing benefits for human health, and it also touched on certain foods that contain it.

The study found that adults who regularly eat potassium-rich foods are less likely to develop cardiovascular disease, according to a report in "Deutsche Welle" that spoke about the study published in the scientific journal "European Heart Association".

The study indicated that foods that are high in potassium, such as avocados, bananas and salmon, can reduce the effect of consuming too much salt and thus lower blood pressure, and added that eating foods with high levels of potassium has greater health benefits for women compared to men.

The study found that women with the highest potassium intake were 11% less likely to develop heart disease, compared to 7% for men.

The results were based on a study of 11,267 men and 13,696 women, aged 40 to 79, in the United Kingdom, who all completed a lifestyle questionnaire, measured their blood pressure and collected urine samples from them. Experts analyzed the relationship between potassium intake and blood pressure.

"The results indicate that potassium helps maintain heart health, but women benefit from it more than men," the study's lead author, Levert Vogt, was quoted by the Chronicle Life website as saying.

"It is well known that salt is associated with higher blood pressure and an increased risk of heart attacks and strokes," the University of Amsterdam professor added.

The same spokesman continued, "Health advice focused on reducing salt intake, but this is difficult to achieve when our diets include processed foods. Our study linked dietary potassium with major health gains in women. Potassium has other ways to protect the heart in addition to increasing sodium excretion." .

In the context, the website "Daily Trust" quoted Tracy Parker, a dietician at the British Heart Foundation, as saying that "eating more foods that contain potassium can be a recipe for a healthier heart."

"An easy way to increase potassium is to eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each day, and other foods such as legumes, fish, nuts, seeds and milk are also high in potassium," she added.
