But this year's harvest is like no other.

As Russian missiles are regularly fired over the area, the farmers operate their agricultural machinery wearing homemade protective vests.

- We have to keep the country going and ensure that food is produced.

We must sow and reap.

That's why we wear life jackets - probably for the first time in our lives we're harvesting under these circumstances.

It is always good to be careful, says one of the Ukrainian farmers that Reuters spoke to.

Missile in field

Another farmer shows parts of a missile he found in his field.

He says that it flew over the fields in April and that parts of it have been confiscated.

Oleksandr, who is in charge of the farmers, says that parts of a power line as well as the roof and doors of a grain plant were destroyed in missile attacks.

Oleksandr also tells Reuters that he has sent around 200 of his homemade protective vests to the army.
