Tiphaine Véron disappeared on July 29, 2018 in Nikko, a tourist city in northeastern Japan.

Four years after the young woman's disappearance, her family launched a petition denouncing "the inertia of justice", reveal our colleagues from France Bleu Poitou.

They call for further research.

In 2018, then 36 years old, Tiphaine Véron, epileptic, had left her hotel to go for a walk, leaving behind her suitcase, her passport and her sightseeing program.

A trailing investigation

For nearly four years, the searches carried out by his relatives on the spot have yielded nothing, no more than the judicial investigations carried out from Poitiers and in Japan, which had led a team of French police officers to go there in May 2019. French justice opened an investigation in the fall of 2018 but is preparing to close the file.

In early July, the investigating judge in charge of the investigation announced that she had completed her investigations, causing a "shock" for those close to Tiphaine Véron.

Several months ago, the investigating judge had refused to go to Japan in turn, a trip supported by the prosecution and deemed “indispensable” by the family.

This refusal was confirmed in December 2021 by the investigating chamber of the Poitiers Court of Appeal.

The specter of non-place

In their petition, the relatives of the young woman believe that the judge has "two choices", "do everything to find out the truth or be discouraged".

“Sign this petition to prevent French justice from committing the irreparable,” implores the mother of the disappeared, at the origin of the petition which collected more than 26,000 signatures this Friday.

French justice is therefore preparing to dismiss the case.

But those close to Tiphaine Véron did not give up.

They are preparing a trip to Japan where they intend to go accompanied by private detectives, assures France Bleu Poitou.

In addition, if a dismissal is pronounced, they intend to appeal.

The Poitiers Court of Appeal will then have to decide.
