In response to the rapid spread of infection with the new corona, the government has decided to introduce a mechanism for prefectural governments to issue their own "declaration of strengthening countermeasures" and strongly call for infection control measures such as early vaccination.

The number of newly infected people of the new corona exceeded 40,000 for the first time in Tokyo on the 28th, and exceeded 230,000 nationwide, the highest ever.

Under these circumstances, Prime Minister Kishida discussed with Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare Goto and Minister in Charge of Japan's new Corona on the 28th.

Among them, they shared the recognition that the burden on medical institutions, especially outpatients with fever, is rapidly increasing, and that it is necessary to work to maintain socio-economic activities and avoid the strain on medical care at the same time.

On top of that, if an increase in the burden on medical institutions is observed, such as when the bed usage rate exceeds 50%, prefectures will introduce a mechanism to independently issue a "BA.5 Measures Strengthening Declaration".

After issuing a declaration, prefectures strongly call for infection control measures such as early vaccination, refraining from going out to crowded places for the elderly and people with underlying illness, and promoting telework.

On the other hand, the national government dispatches staff to coordinate liaison with the prefectures that made the declaration as necessary.

The government will announce this mechanism on the 29th.
