It was this spring that, according to the indictment, the juror allegedly raped a woman and sexually molested another woman at a hotel in Härnösand.
One of the women called SOS Alarm immediately after the incident and the man is now charged with several counts of sexual offences.
- It is never good to have this kind of attention for a court, says Court of Appeal President Agneta Ögren.
The arbitrator himself has judged several cases at the Court of Appeal for lower Norrland, including several serious sex crime cases.
After the suspected rape at the hotel, he himself requested to be dismissed from his position as a member of the jury, and so it happened.
Denies crime
Jurors are elected representatives who are recruited via political parties and when they are appointed, a check is made in the police's criminal records.
If a juror is then suspected of a crime, they are removed from duty during the course of the case.
- When it is a serious crime and charges have been brought, you have to act, so I would probably have suspended, says Agneta Ögren.
The suspected perpetrator denies the crime.
The man's lawyer does not want to go into the circumstances further.
SVT has also sought the women's counsel and the prosecutor at the Special Prosecutor's Chamber without success.
The trial at the Ångermanland district court will probably be held in September.
