Evacuation of rain-affected people in Fujairah

The Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Fujairah Police, Brigadier General Mohammed bin Nayi Al Tunaiji, confirmed cooperation with federal and local government agencies to evacuate those affected by the rains, in the areas of Sukmkum, Al-Shariya and Al-Faseel, and to accommodate them in hotels in Fujairah and provide all their needs.

He pointed out that "the joint teams were able to secure the arrival of a number of families and individuals to their homes in areas outside the Emirate of Fujairah, after rain and torrential rain surrounded them, which led to the breakdown of some of the vehicles, and the drift of a number of them," noting that a large number of vehicles were recovered and removed.

The National Search and Rescue Center is involved in the weather response effort.

The rescue crew was able to transport the stranded in the mountainous areas to safe areas and rescue the injured.

The Director of the Department of Public Works and Agriculture in the Government of Fujairah, Salem Muhammad Ali Al-Maksah, confirmed that 30 mechanisms had been allocated to deal with the accumulated water in the main streets, especially the Corniche and Al-Ghafa streets, and that it was able to withdraw large quantities of it in cooperation with the local crisis and emergency team in the emirate, the General Command of Fujairah Police and defense teams. He added that work continues around the clock to withdraw all quantities of water.

The head of the Khorfakkan Municipal Council, Dr. Rashid Khamis Al-Naqbi, stated that the Operations Department in the Municipality of Khorfakkan and the government teams of the Emirate of Sharjah succeeded in dealing with the effects of the rain and torrential rain that the region witnessed.

He stressed that "the early preparations of the Municipal Council and the city's municipality had an effective impact in dealing positively with the remnants of rain and torrents, and the drainage and withdrawal of water from roads, squares and other places."

He also confirmed that no damages were recorded, except for what happened to a number of houses in the Al-Madifi and Al-Musali areas, pointing to the closure of Shis Park after water entered it in large quantities, in addition to damages on the main road leading to the Shis and Al-Nahwah areas.

On the other hand, the Director of the Municipality of Khorfakkan City, affiliated to Sharjah, Engineer Fawzia Rashid Al-Qadi, conducted an inspection visit to the sites damaged by the rain, accompanied by engineers from the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority, and stressed the need to continue work in order to mitigate the damage.

The municipality of Khorfakkan closed public parks, the cloud restroom, and Al-Shees Park, as a result of the weather conditions.

In addition, the Fujairah Municipality confirmed that it has cooperated with a private company to tow stranded vehicles, due to the accumulation of rain and the difficulty of driving.

Fujairah Police closed the Fujairah Road towards Khorfakkan in both directions as a result of valleys and water gathering, until further notice.
