US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said he will meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the phone and demands the release of Americans detained by the Russian side.

This is the first time that the foreign ministers of both countries have met since Russia's military invasion of Ukraine began in February.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said at a press conference in Washington, DC on the 27th that he would "speak with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in the near future," and said he would meet by phone soon.

He then said, "I'll talk about the liberation of Americans. Those who were unfairly detained." He said he would discuss the release of a former Marine man who was detained four years ago for being espionage.

Blinken also said he would address the issue of a stagnation in exports of wheat and other products from Ukrainian ports facing the Black Sea due to the Russian military blockade.

On the other hand, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that there was no contact from the US side over the talks, saying that there was "no inquiry" to the state-owned news agency.

If the US and Russian foreign ministers meet, the content of the talks will be noticed for the first time since Russia's military invasion of Ukraine began in February.
