The World Health Organization WHO classified monkeypox as an international health emergency on 22 July.

So far, 77 cases of monkeypox have been discovered in Sweden, but none in Västmanland.

This week, Region Stockholm announced that they can start vaccinating against monkeypox.

Sweden has been allocated vaccine doses to 1,000-1,500 people according to the Public Health Agency

- We have been allocated a few doses in Västmanland, which will arrive within one to two weeks, says Daniel Heimer, infectious disease doctor Region Västmanland.

How is it that the vaccine is enough for between 1,000 and 1,500 people?

- If you are already vaccinated against smallpox, one dose is enough.

Everyone born before 1976 is already vaccinated against smallpox and therefore they do not have the same needs as those who are younger, says Daniel Heimer.
