At half past five, the Maritime Administration began a rescue operation on Lake Vänern outside Värmlandsnäs, with the help of the Coast Guard, police and the Maritime Rescue Society.

- We found a person shortly afterwards, after someone had seen a person in the water, says the Swedish Maritime Administration's spokesperson, Jonas Franzén.

At the moment, it is unclear what has happened, other than that two people and two kayaks have been found out in open water, far from land.

Searching by helicopter

The people were taken to hospital and their injuries are still unclear.

The rescue operation is ongoing with several units, including a helicopter, as it has not been possible to rule out that there are more people in the water.

- Partly to find out if there are more and partly to find out where they come from, says the police's press spokesperson, Lars Hedelin.
