Jordan stresses the need to respect the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem

Jordan's King Abdullah II stressed the need to find a political horizon to achieve a just, comprehensive and lasting peace on the basis of the two-state solution, and to enhance security, stability, and regional development, of which the Palestinians must be a part.

During his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid at Al Husseiniya Palace in Amman yesterday, King Abdullah pointed to the importance of building on US President Joe Biden's visit to the region, stressing the need to maintain a comprehensive calm in the coming period, and to respect the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites. .

According to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), the meeting dealt with transport, trade, water and energy issues and ways to deal with them.

In turn, the Israeli Prime Minister's Facebook page said yesterday that the two sides discussed during their meeting "the many opportunities that would pour additional content into the peace agreement, improve the relationship dating back to many years between the two peoples and enhance the common interests of both countries."

The two parties stressed the importance of the intimate personal relationship and mutual appreciation between them as a cornerstone for maintaining regional stability and achieving tangible achievements that will benefit both peoples and the region as a whole.

According to the page, "During the meeting, they discussed US President Joe Biden's visit to Israel and the region, and the possibilities and opportunities that this visit brought with it, including with regard to the regional structure."

The two sides also discussed accelerating the completion of various bilateral projects, including the promotion of the "Jordan Gateway" project, the establishment of solar energy facilities in Jordan and water desalination facilities in Israel, mutual tourism in the Gulf of Eilat-Aqaba, and food security.

The Israeli Prime Minister and the Jordanian King instructed their two working teams to strive to complete major projects as well and to advance in them quickly, and they agreed to continue deepening relations.
