Violet goldwing is highly threatened throughout Europe.

The species used to occur on cultivated land in Norrland and northern Svealand, but has declined sharply in recent decades as agricultural practices have changed and the landscape has begun to grow again.

- We want to map where the butterfly remains and where it might find new land and to make sure that it does not disappear completely, says Alexandra Lindmark, biologist and nature conservation officer at the County Administrative Board in Norrbotten.

In Norrbotten there are known occurrences of Violet goldwing in a few areas, mainly along the coast such as on Storön outside Kalix.

- This is a rather special place because we are not aware of anyone else finding Violet goldwing on seashore meadows in the rest of Sweden, says Alexandra Lindmark.

You can report to the county board or Artportalen if you see the butterfly.
