In 1952, at the height of the Korean War, Mr. Holmes' father died while performing a railroad bombing mission in a B29.

It was six weeks before Mr. Holmes was born.

[Harold Holmes / Son of a Korean War U.S. Soldier: I don't think I'll ever be able to find my father's remains.

At the time, he was flying 10,000 meters.

That's why I'm grateful for coming to this event.]

A 91-year-old veteran who participated in the so-called 'Punch Ball Battle' in August 1951 in Yanggu, Gangwon-do, still has vivid memories of that time.

In Washington DC, a memorial ceremony for the bereaved family was held one day before the completion ceremony of the memorial wall engraved with the names of the dead at the Korean War Veterans Memorial Park.

Bereaved families and veterans who visited the park laid wreaths while stroking the names of the dead.

[Brenda Bender Kui/Nephew of a Korean War U.S. Soldier: After seeing his uncle's name engraved there, I felt that he was finally remembered and honored.

My grandmother and father (if they were alive) must have been moved.]

The names of 43,808 American and KATUSA Soldiers who died during the Korean War were engraved on the 50-meter-wide memorial wall.

7,174 KATUSA Soldiers with their names engraved.

It is the first monument to a war veteran in the United States to have the name of a non-American soldier engraved on it.

[Han Shin-hee / KATUSA Soldier Bereaved: I was so moved…

Even before, tears came out of my eyes, and I'm so proud of my real father...

The decision to build the wall of remembrance was decided in 2016, but due to budget problems, it came to fruition thanks to the efforts of Korea and the United States and support from various fields.

[Park Min-sik / Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs: The wall of remembrance will be a space to remember the courage and devotion of the heroes and a symbol of the strong ROK-U.S. alliance.]

At the completion ceremony held tonight in Korea time, a message from the leaders of the two countries is expected to appear. It seems to be an opportunity to strengthen the alliance between the two countries.
