Hearings of former collaborators at the White House, examination of phone calls made by Donald Trump's entourage, the Ministry of Justice is increasingly looking into the attitude of the former president during and
before the attack of January 6
.
Until now, the government had always denied having targeted the person of Donald Trump in particular.
More than 800 people are currently in the crosshairs of justice, they are accused of being involved in the attack on the Capitol.
The parliamentary commission of inquiry, which is trying to shed light on the events of January 6, believes that there is enough evidence that would allow an indictment of Donald Trump.
But that decision rests with the Department of Justice.
A complicated maneuver for the government
Such a decision must be carefully considered because, a few months before the midterm elections, legal proceedings against Donald Trump would be perceived as a partisan maneuver.
And they could turn against the Democrats.
The Minister of Justice does not rule out the possibility of an investigation.
But internally, he asked his teams to wait for the November elections before embarking on any possible prosecutions.
