Al-Maliki criticizes the Al-Sadr supporters' storming of the Iraqi parliament

Today, Wednesday, Nuri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law coalition in the Iraqi parliament, criticized the storming of followers of religious leader Muqtada al-Sadr in the government's Green Zone and the Iraqi parliament building.

And he said in a press statement, "The entry of demonstrators from any side to the courtyards of Parliament in the Green Zone and violating the security protection of the region, is a flagrant violation of the legitimate right to demonstrate."

Al-Maliki warned, saying: "Reality may lead to intersections with the protections of representatives and officials, and Mustafa Al-Kazemi's government must fulfill its constitutional responsibilities to protect the security and social situation, avoid bloodshed among Iraqis, and use legitimate means to deter any attack on the prestige of the state and its institutions."

Al-Maliki called on the demonstrators to "immediately withdraw from the area, abide by the legal right to demonstrate, and not be drawn into calls for confrontation with the forces in charge of protection."
