A treasure hunt for dollar bills broke out in an Argentine dump.

According to local media on the 26th (local time), dollar bills were recently found in a garbage dump in Las Parrejas, Santa Fe province, central Argentina.

"While working with the excavator, a bag in an old closet got caught in the machine, and dollar bills in the bag flew everywhere," said Raul Nuñez, a local daily Elitoral, a garbage dump worker.

Rumors spread on social media that there were 100 dollar bills buried in this garbage dump, totaling $1 million (about 1.3 billion won).

As people from all over the country flocked to find dollars to dig up the pile of garbage, the authorities banned the public from entering the dump site on the 22nd due to the risk of safety accidents.

The daily Lanacion reported that the banknotes found before the closure of the dumpster were $75,000 (about 98 million won).

However, there are many residents who quietly picked up the money, so it is estimated that the actual amount found is much higher.

Federico Baez, who participated in 'Find Dollars', said, "Six people came and picked up a total of $10,000 (about 13 million won). One child took 25,000 dollars (33 million won)." "There's probably more money buried under the ground," he told AFP on the 26th.

Dollar cash is especially valuable in Argentina, which has seen killer inflation and depreciation of the peso.

Because many people keep dollars at home due to distrust of the banking system and foreign currency control by the authorities, it is speculated that the owner of the dollar found in the dump may have died without an heir while keeping the dollars in a closet.
