Until the year 2050, the World Bank predicts that there will be a total of 216 million climate refugees.

Can contribute to conflicts

According to Bjerström, the most vulnerable regions are South Asia, South America, the Middle East and North Africa.

There, many people cross national borders due to extreme drought or heavy flooding.

Something that can lead to conflicts over water resources and migration laws that can be exploited by different political groups.

- There is a strong concern that the climate refugees themselves drive conflicts.

If many people move into cities at the same time, there will be stress and pressure on weak states.
