China News Agency, United Nations, July 25. United Nations Secretary-General Guterres announced on the 25th that he has appointed senior Chinese diplomat Li Junhua as the next Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations.

  On the same day, Guterres issued a statement through a spokesman saying that Li Junhua will succeed Liu Zhenmin, who is also from China.

Guterres expressed his gratitude to Liu Zhenmin for his dedication to the United Nations during his tenure as Deputy Secretary-General.

  Li Junhua will put forward views and visions on promoting multilateral economic and social cooperation, and he pledged to work with all parties to further implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and to serve member states, the statement said.

Previously, he contributed to numerous meetings of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council, and other multilateral meetings such as the G20, APEC, ASEM, BRICS, etc.

  Li Junhua joined the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1985 and is currently the Chinese Ambassador to Italy and San Marino. He previously served as Director-General of the International Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, and Minister Counselor for Political Affairs of the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations.
